As part of their duties, military personnel must overcome certain difficulties that may have long-term implications on their mental health as well as broad ramifications for their families. Daily life-threatening events and the trauma of death and devastation are experienced by military soldiers operating in armed warfare. The individual's mental health may suffer from repeated exposures during deployments that may extend for months. Post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and suicide are more common in active duty and former military members than in the general population. The entire family is frequently affected by these problems. There is a higher incidence of domestic violence, child abuse, and divorce among military families, particularly when the service member has mental health problems. The goal of this course is to give healthcare professionals from various specialties a general grasp of the mental health issues that veterans face as well as an overview of the most effective methods for diagnosing and treating these patients.
