Shaken Baby Syndrome: Effects and Prevention Methods

$15.00

Shaken baby syndrome, also known as pediatric abusive head trauma, is the term used for the specific signs and symptoms that might appear when an infant or young kid is shaken forcefully or when the shaking is combined with an injury to the head. According to the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome, there are around 1,300 pediatric traumatic head injuries per year in the US and about 25% of those end in fatalities. The goal of this course is to arm those who are likely to come into contact with possible abuse—such as health care and mental health professionals—with the knowledge and skills necessary to see the warning signs of abuse and respond appropriately with the proper treatment and care.

At the end of the course, the participants are expected to:

  1. Describe child abuse-related head trauma.
  2. Identify how common abusive head trauma occurs in children
  3. Explain the long-term effects of child abuse-related head damage.
  4. Identify the typical causes of abusive head trauma in children.
  5. Recognize the risk factors for child abuse-related head trauma in both the victim and the perpetrator.
  6. List the most frequent injuries brought on by violent head trauma in children.
  7. Describe the procedures for diagnosing and treating child abuse-related head injuries.
  8. Specify actions that can be implemented to lower the frequency of abusive head trauma in children.
