To stop fatalities during a natural catastrophe and assist survivors in adjusting to the aftermath, first responders and healthcare professionals from different specialties are essential. The purpose of this training is to acquaint first responders and healthcare professionals with the kinds of risks that they and the general population may encounter in the wake of a hurricane, tornado, flood, or other natural catastrophe.
At the end of the course, the participants are expected to:
- Determine the problems influencing the safety of food and water after a natural disaster.
- Identify the warning signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning as well as preventative measures.
- Outline the different kinds of environmental risks that can arise after a storm and the necessary precautions to take.
- Discuss how the availability of medical supplies and medications for those with chronic illnesses may be impacted by natural catastrophes.
- Assess what actions can be implemented during storm cleaning to reduce the number of illnesses and injuries.
- Illustrate the different mental health conditions that might develop after a natural disaster and suggest coping mechanisms.
